ABOUT THE DESIGN

This design is inspired by Zechariah 4:6.  Chapter 4 tells of Zechariah being awakened out of sleep and shown a vision of a lampstand with a bowl on the top to hold oil, seven pipes that delivered the oil to seven lamps. The lampstand also had two olive trees on either side of the bowl. The angel asks Zechariah the meaning of this lampstand but he didn’t know. In Zechariah 4:6, the angel tells the prophet, “This is the word of the Lord to Zerubbabel: “Not by might nor by power, but by My Spirit says the Lord of hosts.” 

Zerubabbel was the grandson of Jehoiachin, the last king of Judah who was taken into captivity by the Babylonians. He was appointed as governor of Judah under the Persian King Darius I who allowed the exiles to return home. Zerubbabel played a central role in rebuilding the Jewish community and the Temple in Jerusalem. He was not a king but acted as a political and spiritual leader for the returning exiles. As you would expect, Zerubabbel faced many challenges in building a new community back in Judah after 70 years of exile. God’s message to Zerubabbel was that the work would be accomplished not by his might or power, but by the Spirit of God.

This message is relevant to us today.  2 Corinthians 3:5, Paul says, “Not that we are sufficient of ourselves to think anything as being from ourselves, but our sufficiency is from God.” In chapter 9, verse 8 of the same book Paul says, “And God is able to make all grace abound toward you, that you always having all sufficiency in all things, may have an abundance for every good work.” Both verses are from the NKJV.
